our storm passed quickly and all that was left this morning were passing flotillas of clouds in deep blue sky. it stayed cool all day, even with the sunshine. i ♥ winters in california. but i do dream of blizzards. and ice skating. and sleds. and sleigh rides through the white countryside. and ice fishing. and snowy cabins.
and i did think those winter thoughts while i sliced up the meyer lemons i picked off the trees in palm springs a few weeks ago.
i worked away at the kitchen table in the sun. slice slice slice.
...sort of followed this recipe except i used 3 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar. i can't wait to spoon some onto my toast in the morning. it thickened nicely and was perfectly sweet and bitter.
i'm going to plant my dwarf meyer lemon tree in the front yard this week. it doesn't seem to like living in a pot. i'm hoping it will like its new home near the peach tree and give me lots of lemons to pick year after year when i'm in my dotage. i can have my assistant push me outside when i'm 95 and sit me under the lemon tree.
further thoughts about yellow.
if someone were to call me on the phone and say, "i heard about your sabbatical what big important things are you doing with your time?" i would say without hesitation, "i'm making dots & dashes!"
because i am.
